Rural Arts

The Rural Community Arts programme provides targeted support to develop the capacity of local communities, children, families and young people in East Cambridgeshire to manage, develop and deliver their own arts activity and programmes and to access ongoing support mechanisms.

Building Capacity with Voluntary Arts
In 2007 ADeC supported the formation of Ellesmere Arts in Stetchworth and Dullingham to the south of East Cambridgeshire as a rural voluntary arts group and facilitated development of their artistic programme. Over twelve months a programme was developed and delivered including a small scale community performance event and a three day film festival. The targeted supported included event and project management, funding and youth consultation and engagement. Over 200 members of the local community performed, delivered or attended the events.

Embedding Creativity in Learning
The third phase of the programme focused on embedding creativity in learning in a rural Primary school in East Cambridgeshire. From December to March 2008 John Lyons, local visual artist was resident at Isleham Primary School and delivered a six week after school creative arts programme to 20 children from Year 3 and 4. The project focused on local history and the Romans linked to the Curriculum and included a visit to Ely Museum where a re-enactment by two Roman solders brought the experience to life. The project was supported by ADeC and the Bottisham, Burwell and Soham Development Worker and parent volunteers and was funded by a small ADeC community grant.
