Youth Arts
Fenland Jam
Fenland Jam is a community group set up to support local musicians. All ages, styles and abilities are welcome. It is a chance to socialise with other musicians, try out songs or form a band. All drums, amps, PA and guitars are provided with people on hand to give advice, encouragement and impromptu lessons.
The group was founded by Steve Mingay MBE in 2005. In 2006 Fenland Jam teamed up with Nathan Jones of ADeC (Arts Development in East Cambridgeshire) to help develop and expand its activities. In 2007 Steve, Nathan and long time supporter Will Cutter of Fenland Music formed an official Fenland Jam committee. In 2008 a youth panel was formed to give the younger members a say in the running of the group.
Fenland Jam values all its participants and their views are taken into account when choosing new equipment, planning events and submitting funding bids. Regular attendees are also offered opportunities to record and perform. Everyone is encouraged to enjoy, value and protect this non competitive, supportive environment.
Younger members of Fenland Jam have the opportunity to gain the national Arts Award qualification. The award helps them develop their arts skills and knowledge and helps them to become arts leaders.
Regular Jam sessions take place at the Ely Beet Sports and Social Club (Lynn Road, Ely) on the last Monday of every month from 7pm – 9.30pm. Entrance is £2 and all equipment is provided.
Fenland Jam has also held sessions at:
Littleport Regal, Wicken Village Hall, Ely Jubilee Gardens, Haddenham Steam Rally, Ely Aquafest, March Town Hall, Littleport Scout Hut, Ely Folk Festival, Lamb Stables Bar, The Kings Arms, Wisbech, Haddenham Arkenstall Centre, Ely Maltings, Wicken Fete, Littleport Show, YPM Centre March, Sawtry Youth Club, and Yaxley Youth Club.
