Tickets now on sale. Marking the centenary of outbreak of World War 1 with a sumptuous and revelatory concert, given by the celebrated Cambridge Voices in Ely’s stunning Lady Chapel with its world-famous acoustics, featuring ravishing music and poetry from Britain, Russia, Germany, and France.
Festival time will soon be descending upon the District and East Cambridgeshire audiences are being promised a month full of music, art, theatre, live film screenings, literature, and more.
Everything from a concert performance of The Marriage of Figaro by CAOS at St Peter’s Church, Fordham to two performances of a poignant new touring show from Nottingham Playhouse Theatre The Second Minute at Haddenham and Stetchworth, to live satellite screenings from the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal Opera House will feature in this year’s festival.
The Festival kicks off on Wednesday 11 June in Swaffham Bulbeck in their wonderful ‘Theatre in a Barn’ with a performance of Patience by Gilbert & Sullivan and comes to a close on Sunday 13 July with the final day of the Ely Folk Festival.
With events spread across the District as far afield as Swaffham Bulbeck, Fordham, Stetchworth, Haddenham, Soham there are also many highlight events taking place in the City of Ely. The focus this year is particularly on involving young people and developing their talents. ADeC’s Arts Crew will be presenting two showcase events in July at the Maltings. The Lantern Dance Theatre Company will be performing especially commissioned new work Fenland Suite, working with dance professionals STOPGAP dance. Lantern Dance is the region’s leading integrated dance group where dancers with and without a disability train and perform on equal terms.
