Loukas Morley : Without Words - Babylon Gallery exhibition

Saturday 5 March - Sunday 24 April

The works in this exhibition are a collection of paintings, objects, collages and furniture, including Flow Series. It is the artist’s intention to allow the work to communicate directly with the viewer: each work has its own poetry and voice. To enable this, the works remain untitled. In this way, the viewer is able to engage with the works in unprescribed ways, entering into the poignant silence and space which is both within and around them.

Loukas Morley is an artist specialising in the media of collage, bricolage, gestural drawings and paintings. His responses to feelings and thoughts are intuitive, so that when an idea has become firm in his mind he is able to step aside and let it describe itself. This is what gives his work its momentum: respecting the flow of an idea and allowing it to breathe on its own.

This workshop will guide participants through the process of mark making, thereby encouraging them to explore and develop their own unique visual language. It is through making marks that art is created: participants will be encouraged to explore gesture and expression in and through a variety of media and colours. Music will enable the process: by redirecting attention away from oneself and placing it instead upon different kinds of music, the self-conscious act of creation will give way to play and improvisation.
