Forthcoming Exhibition at The Babylon Gallery.
Saturday 8 & Sunday 9 January. Young people in East Cambridgeshire aged from four to eighteen years are being given the chance to see their artwork exhibited on the walls of the Babylon contemporary art gallery on Ely’s Waterside. ADeC who run the gallery have teamed up with Ely-Hereward Rotary to organise an art competition open to young people at East Cambridgeshire Schools.
ADeC is offering a 12 month Live Events and Promotions Apprenticeship in partnership with the Junction in Cambridge. Deadline Friday 14 October.
ADeC is supporting The Big Lunch in Jubilee Gardens on Sunday 18th July from 2-4pm. Everyone is invited to get as many people together for a mass picnic.

ADeC Live! Tickets are now on sale for all our forthcoming events. Cambridge Voices, Bury Theatre Royal, Lau, Arthur Smith, Brian Kennedy John Shuttleworth and Rich Hall will perform at local East Cambs venues.

Ezio & Booga will performing at the Maltings in Ely on Friday 16 July. The duo of Ezio Lunedei and Mark "Booga" Fowell will be playing with talented local singer Aimee Peart -Webb as support.
Punk, poet, legend...John Cooper Clarke will be bringing his unique style of entertainment to The Maltings, Ely on Sunday 16 May. Caroline Cawley, Marketing Manager from ADeC who are promoting the event said ‘He is often referred to as "the bard of Salford" usually refering to himself on stage as "Johnny Clarke, the name behind the hairstyle". He is best known as the original punk poet, working as a support act for many seminal punk bands such as the Sex Pistols, Buzzcocks, The Fall, Joy Division, Elvis Costello and Siouxsie and the Banshees, to name but a few. Expect a mix of hilarious anecdotes of life in a Northern town interspersed with machine-gun fast delivery of some of his best poems.

We were informed on Wednesday afternoon this week that a proposal to end the 18 year partnership between ADeC and East Cambridgeshire District Council from June 2010 is going to the Community Services Committee on Thursday evening, 21 January. ADeC (Arts Development in East Cambridgeshire) have won a national bid to deliver a rap music project with young people in East Cambridgeshire. The Youth Music funded project ‘Beat The Rap’ will start in June and continue until July 2011.
A packed programme of creative activities funded by Cambridgeshire County Council have been put together by ADeC to keep young people aged 13 – 19 years entertained during the holidays throughout the Huntingdonshire district. From Film Making, Belly Dancing, and BBoying to Circus Skills, Beat Boxing and Street Dance there are a wide range of free half day sessions taking place at Huntingdon, Sawtry, Yaxley, St Neots, St Ives, Sommersham and Earith. Following a successful tender for the project ADeC are working with the Youth Centres to develop arts and cultural activities in Huntingdonshire.
As part of the Fakes & Forgeries exhibition at the Babylon Gallery, ADeC is bringing art critic Brian Sewell to Ely for a rare public appearance. Considered one of the UK’s leading and often controversial critics for his outspoken views on modern art and artists he will be giving a talk at the Hayward Theatre, King’s School on Saturday 3 September at 3pm
Grumpy old man and Radio 4 comedian Arthur Smith was just one of over 300 passengers stuck on a broken down train from London to Cambridgeshire leaving him unable to perform at the Maltings last Friday night. He has promised to come back and a new date has been arranged for Friday 11 February 2011.
ADeC (Arts Development in East Cambridgeshire) are running a one-day course on Monday 20th June, training people to become an Arts Award advisor and play an important role in helping young people develop in the arts.
The Arts Award is a national qualification managed by Trinity College London which supports young people aged 11 – 25 to enjoy the arts, develop creative skills and become arts leaders. It can help young people who are interested in any art form drama and music to film and photography.
Eighteen young people from East Cambridgeshire aged from 12 - 19 years have successfully completed their bronze, silver and gold Arts Award.
Art Unwrapped for Christmas, is the Babylon's seasonal selling exhibition featuring beautiful handmade gifts by regional contemporary artists and craftspeople. The exhibition runs from Saturday November 12 – Friday December 23, 2011.

ADeC (Arts Development in East Cambs) are looking for young people to become radio DJs and producers as part of their latest project ‘Making Waves’.
Working with Peterborough FM ADeC are offering 5 young people (aged 13 – 18) the chance to learn everything they need to know about; microphone techniques, using a digital editing suite, putting together a radio show, recording live music performances in the studio and being a DJ.
A new exhibition of work from photographer Justin Partyka opens at the Babylon Gallery on Saturday 15 January and continues until Sunday 27 February. This exhibition is generously supported by Pooley, Bendall & Watson, solicitors, Isleham & Ely.
On Sunday 16 October at 3pm Ely Cinema, The Maltings, Ely will be screening Esmeralda by the Bolshoi Ballet. This is a sumptuous ballet in 3 acts and 5 scenes, based on the Victor Hugo story of Notre Dame de Paris (made famous on film as the Hunchback of Notre Dame).
The BOSH BASH tour of music workshops allows young people the chance to learn songs and make music. On Thursday 26th August the tour will come to the Glebe in Sutton. Click on the document for full details.
Celebrating 2012 Community Grants applications open 1 December. ADeC and East Cambridgeshire District Council are inviting communities throughout the district to bid for ‘Celebrating 2012’ grants with a funding pot of £6,000 to help with local celebrations.
Three local groups have recently benefitted from grant awards from ADeC (Arts Development in East Cambridgeshire). The grants, available to groups in East Cambridgeshire, can be used for a range of purposes from small items of art equipment to employing professional artists to run workshops.
Selected work from over 30 talented professional makers from throughout the region. Work includes vibrant and exciting contemporary ceramics, textiles, jewellery, prints, glass and wood.
CW Stoneking will be performing on Friday 15 July in one of Ely's most beautiful, intimate venues. St Peter's Church, Broad Street, Ely, Cambs. His UK tour includes performances at Glastonbury, Latitude Festival, Womad and the Secret Garden Party. He has also been a featured artist on Jools Holland Later and the Bob Harris Show.
Once again ADeC (Arts Development in East Cambridgeshire) are working with ECDC to stage six bandstand concerts throughout July and August in the wonderful setting of Ely’s Jubilee Gardens. On Saturday afternoons from 2 – 4pm the gardens will come to life with FREE music ranging from classical and folk to rock and pop. Concerts start on Saturday 18 July.
Details of this year’s series of Saturday afternoon bandstand concerts in Ely’s Jubilee Gardens. Once again ADeC (Arts Development in East Cambridgeshire) are working with ECDC to stage seven concerts throughout July and August to entertain visitors to Ely’s waterside.
The Babylon Gallery will be showing one of its most unusual exhibitions to date when it plays host to the private collection of local auctioneer David Palmer. The exhibition opens on Friday 22 July and continues over the summer holidays to Sunday 11 September. Over the years David has acquired a number of paintings, sculpture, and ephemera, some of which may be unsigned masterpieces or clever copies designed to fool the unwary collector. Each piece has a fascinating story to tell…
February’s are funny! ADeC are bringing two top quality comedians Dr Phil Hammond and Arthur Smith to the Maltings on Ely’s Waterside this February.
Fresh from performances at the Cambridge Folk Festival and Latitude (in their alter-ego as Bellowhead) Spiers and Boden will be performing live at the Maltings, Ely on Tuesday 27 September.
An exhibition featuring paintings, drawings, photographs and sketchbook notes which trace an artist’s fascination with Antartica will be opening at the Babylon Gallery on Ely’s Waterside on Saturday 2 July and continues to Friday 15 July. Frances Hatch went to the Antarctic Peninsula in the company of about a hundred passengers on MS Endeavour.
Talent Competition Comes To Ely. This year’s exciting G-Factor, a major talent competition for young people from East Cambridgeshire, will be held on Wednesday 20th July at The Lighthouse Centre, Chapel Street, Ely, starting at 7pm.

John, who is best known for his BBC Radio 4 show The Shuttleworths will perform his live show ‘ A man with no more rolls’ at the Maltings, Ely on Wednesday 24 November.

Celebrating ‘Craft and Design Month’ this coming May, The Babylon Gallery, run by ADeC in Ely, has just launched a call for entries from makers and designers from East Anglia.
Rapunzel's Shout, an exhibition of artwork by Emily Haysom, artist and firefighter will be launched at the Babylon Gallery on Ely's Riverside on Saturday 7 August from 2-4pm, entry is free and everyone is welcome. The show features contemplative photographs, text, painting, stitching and installation, capturing what it means to be a female firefighter in today’s Service.
The Babylon Gallery on Ely’s Waterside is delighted to present the work of ten contemporary printmakers from the Gainsborough House Print Workshop based in Sudbury, Suffolk. The exhibition opens on Saturday 4 February and runs through to Sunday 11 March 2012.

For the second year running many local East Cambs schools have signed up to compete in the ADeC Babylon Gallery Art Competition, sponsored by Hereward & Ely Rotary Club and Tindalls. Prizes will be awarded at a special preview for all children, parents, and staff, on Friday, January 13 and the general public will be able to view the work from Saturday January 14 – Sunday 22 January.

Nine local schools entered the ADeC Babylon Gallery Art Competition, sponsored by Hereward & Ely Rotary Club and Tindalls. Prizes were awarded at a special preview for all children, parents, and staff, on Friday, January 13. The competition was open to all East Cambridgeshire school children with entries from young people aged from 4 up to 18 years; the work was judged by a professional panel of judges.
Aspiring young guitarists are invited to join seasoned Fenland Jam professionals in a series of Guitar Workshops being held on 4th, 16th and 25th February and on 11th and 25th March from 7.30pm -9pm. The sessions are being held in conjunction with the Garage Youth Club, The Lighthouse, Chapel Street in Ely.

ADeC is inviting you to take a challenge whether it’s playing an instrument at the BOSH BASH, pedaling your way to see the end of the film with our bicycle powered cinema or knitting your own sporting equipment at our Knitathon.
The Babylon Bridge building on Ely’s Waterside is now home to three creative organisations. ADeC have officially taken on the lease on the building and with two commercial tenants, Isle Interactive and Mole Architects, has secured a more permanent home for ADeC and the Babylon Gallery.
It’s Christmas Eve and a young boy’s snowman comes to life... The Mayor’s Family Christmas concert on Sunday 4 December at the Maltings features Ely Sinfonia performing Howard Blake’s uplifting score including the classic ‘Walking in the air’. With live music and narrator this is a festive concert to really get you in the Christmas mood.

Exciting news for Littleport musicians. Thanks to a successful funding award from Youth Music, work has begun on converting the upstairs of the YPL (Young People Littleport) building in Granby Street into a multi purpose music facility.
